THE QUEEN’S CROCQUET GROUND: Alice and Card playing crocquet

Programming level 1

Build Alice and a Card playing crocquet

P1

How to build

Build Alice and a Card playing crocquet

  • Build Alice, the hedgehog and the deck of cards
  • Alíz's arm is fitted with a shaft for the flamingo to hit, and the hedgehog is fitted with a ball for smooth movement.
  • The lying card deck figure, like a moving gate, can be pushed back and forth on large wheels. Background features several figures of the deck of cards.

Build the Card with a flamingo as a stick

P2

How to build

Build the Card with a flamingo as a stick

  • Build Alice, the hedgehog and the card deck, as in P1.
  • The card gate moves back and forth on 2 DC motors for 1-1 second, its program starts automatically when switched on.
  • Alíz's arm is mounted on a Servo motor and she has a flamingo in her hand, which she uses as a bat.
  • Alice hits the hedgehog by pressing the Touch sensor.
  • The aim is to shoot the hedgehog into the moving cardboard gate.

The Card hits the hedgehog with a flamingo

P3

How to build

The Card hits the hedgehog with a flamingo

  • Build Alice, as in P2. Connect 1 IR Photoreflector at her foot.
  • Build a card gate as in P1.
  • Build a standing cardboard figure equipped with 4 push-button remote control.
  • The hedgehog is pushed in front of Alice by the standing cardboard figure. The IR Photoreflector mounted on Alíz detects when the card base approaches it. When the figure moves away from Alice, Alice uses the Servo motor to hit the hedgehog in front of her into the cardboard gate.

The Card moves forward and backwards

P4

How to build

The Card moves forward and backwards

  • Build Alice, as in P2. Alíz can be rotated on 1 additional Servo motor.
  • 2 Touch sensors can be used to adjust the direction of Alíz by stepping, step by step, to set the robot in the right position for the stroke. The stroke itself is controlled by the 3rd touch sensor.
  • Build the moving Card as in P3, connect 2 IR Photoreflectors and 2 Touch sensors to it.
  • Around Alíz in a semi-circular arc, there is a track taped with duct tape, with 3 stopping points (these are also marked with duct tape).
  • One of the 2 IR Photoreflectors on the card keeps the figure on the line drawn around Alice, while the other sensor stops it at the chosen point.
  • Pressing one of the Touch sensors 1-3 times will select how far the Card will push the hedgehog in front of Alice, and pressing the other Touch sensor will start the tracking.
  • The robot stops at the pre-selected point and then moves back so that Alíz can hit the hedgehog unhindered.
